Stelvio is EPIC! Many cyclists tout Stelvio as their favorite climb in the world and is often featured in the Giro d’Italia. The pass is the 2nd highest paved road in Europe at a very high 2,758m (9045 ft). The climb up from the Prato side has an approximate 6,000 ft elevation gain and 48 numbered switchbacks—really helps with the sense of accomplishment. On the Bormio side, for the descent, there are 27 switchbacks for a grand total of 75. The switchbacks are what really makes the climb so famous and iconic.
