The Mythical Alps Tour

Join OutThere Adventure Travel to ride through the alpine valleys and passes of Slovenia, Austria and even a corner of Italy. Experience the storybook lakes of the region as well the culture. The tour is designed for multiple levels of cycling fitness and experience, ideal for couples, individuals, seasoned and novice riders. The tour will conquer the passes of Vrisc, Nassfeld and the famed Gross Glockner. Our routes typically have a good amount of climbing and descending, but not all of the rides are up and down mountain passes, we will also enjoy the famed Alpe Adria Bike Path and quiet roads through forested preserves. The hotels we have chosen for this trip are sure to entice you to relax in luxury and enjoy the natural beauty of our settings. The smaller size of our group and the option for E-bikes, allows for tailoring to varied levels of ability. We can shorten a day for some and add more challenge and length to a day for others. We can also add fun off the bike activities on Lake Worthersee and an exhilarating via ferrata in Lienz.

2 nights in Kranjska Gora Slovenia

Located in the beautiful Upper Sava Valley, at the foothills of the majestic Martuljek Mountain Group, one of the most beautiful corners of the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park. We will cycle to one of Slovenia's jewels-- the picturesque village of Bled, with the oldest castle in Slovenia perched high on the banks of Lake Bled, their majestic church set upon a small island in the lake make this village a photographers dream. Vrisc Pass is not a well known European Pass but it should be. The iconic side has cobblestones on each of its many switchbacks and the descent in to the Soça River valley is well worth the ride up. The loop continues with Predil Pass crossing into Italy. The bravest can add to the day with summiting the famed Mangart.

3 nights in Velden, Austria

On the shore of Lake Wörthersee in Carinthia, Velden is full of grandeur and a place where you can enjoy life on the bike as well as in the water of the beautiful emerald lake. The water temperatures in the lakes are pleasant for swimming early in the year as Carinthia has a Mediterranean-like climate.  The cycling options in Carinthia's Lake Region is endless with small quite roads and plenty of hills.

3 nights Lienz, Austria

A medieval town in the Austrian state of Tyrol, nature shows off its most beautiful curves around Lienz. Mighty rock faces, cascading water and the lush green of the alpine pastures line the panoramic roads - in the region boasting the most hours of sunshine in Austria. Lienz is an ideal starting point for riding the "quieter side" of Gross Glockner. This pass is the highest paved road in Austria and can be considered the Queen Stage of this tour.

Dates: Arrive in Kranjska Gora Slovenia by June 15.  Depart Lienz, Austria on morning of June 23rd.

Ride days: June 15—June 22nd will be ride days with a day off scheduled on Lake Worthersee, or a recovery day ride around the Lake for those wanting to keep pedaling 

Price: $6500 based on double occupancy. Single options available

Not Included:

• Airport transfers. We will help arrange the transfers and assist in sharing the transfers with other guest with similar travel times.

• Lunch stops at cafes or restaurants during the rides. The cost of these will be guest’s responsibility.

• Tipping of guides and other professional services (such as massage or spa).

Hotels: We have done extensive research to find exceptional accommodations. We believe the hotels are integral part of the experience of the tour. Single supplements available as well as upgrades.

 

Bike rentals:  The bikes that we can arrange for you to rent will be high end road and E-bikes with appropriate gear ratios. The bike rentals are not included in the trip price. You may want to consider traveling with your own bike if you are extremely particular with the fit and ride of your bike. The newer and higher end bike technology is making it more difficult to adjust the handlebars, stems and seatposts to custom fit the riders needs. We are happy to work with you to help you make this decision.

Deposits/Payments: $1500 non-refundable deposit due upon confirmation and final  $5000 due March 1, 2024

 

Arriving early is possible. Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to arrive a day or two early to acclimate so we reserve the rooms.

Upgrading is possible. Each hotel will have upgrade options if you would like to upgrade to a larger room or a suite.
